Ferromagnetic minerals are themselves magnetic (, magnetite and pyrrhotite) and can be easily separated from other minerals with a magnet since they will stick to the poles of the magnet. These minerals can be separated by wrapping the poles of a magnet in paper, passing the magnet over the mineral mixture.
Magnetic separator is used for removing the iron powders in powdery ore particles in resource recycling, lumbering, mine, ceramics, chemistry and food. It is suitable for the wet magnetic separation of materials whose granularity is below 3 mm such as magnetite, magnetic pyrite, calcined ore and ilmenite and also for derioning the .
In order to investigate the effect of particle size on the recovery of magnetite particles in a low intensity magnetic separator, different size fractions of magnetite, alone and mixed with the same size quartz particles at a – ratio were subjected to magnetic separation tests in a Davis tube tester.
